Primary Research Area
I design, develop, and implement, digital health interventions aimed at improving treatment outcomes for people struggling with addictive behaviors and chronic pain. My work adopts a harm reduction perspective and frequently incorporates mindfulness-based interventions. I also use machine learning algorithms in many of my analyses to explore research questions. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I have experience delivering empirically supported, manualized interventions. Currently, my research involves using text messages to deliver mindfulness-based interventions to people with chronic pain and opioid use disorder, utilizing an adaptive intervention approach. I also study the cultural centering and implementation of mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP) for Hispanic/Latino people with substance use problems.
