Principal Investigator: Dr. Natasha Slesnick
Dr. Slesnick and her team of colleagues at UNM CASAA are conducting the TEAM project. TEAM is funded by SAMHSA and is in its second and final year of study. In this project, substance abusing homeless youth are randomly assigned to either (1) Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) + adult mentoring, or (2) service as usual through a drop-in center (no treatment control). All youth are contacted again at 3 and 6 months. This research is a step towards identifying effective interventions designed specifically for addressing problems among homeless youth. Given that the CRA + adult mentoring approach targets many areas of change directly (e.g., substance use, social stability), it is expected that positive change on the outcome measures will be greater for youth at post-treatment in the project intervention condition compared to service as usual.
