Principal Investigator: Dr. Natasha Slesnick
Co-Investigator: Dr. Robert J. Meyers
Dr. Slesnick and her team of colleagues at UNM CASAA are conducting the E-STAR (Expanding Services to Albuquerque's Runaways) project. E-STAR is a three year project funded by CSAT and is currently in its second year. This project is expanding the services that Dr. Slesnick has been providing to homeless and runaway adolescents by opening a drop-in site. Adolescents (age 14 to 24) can receive a variety of services at this site including case management, therapy (Community Reinforcement Approach), food, showers, and use of a washer/dryer. The goals of this program include increasing provisions of services to street youth, enhancing adolescents' treatment services, and improving adolescents' linkage with available community service providers. It is expected that clients in this project will reduce their alcohol and drug use, increase their social stability including housing and employment, access to medical and psychiatric care, and will show improvements in their psychological functioning.
