Common Questions Regarding the MI Training Study

What are the dates of the training, and when would I need to arrive and leave?
The training will be held November 17 - 18, 2009, in Albuquerque, NM. If selected to participate in the study, you would need to arrive the night of the 16th and stay through the night of the 18th.

Will I have to pay for the training? No. Grant support will cover most of the training-related costs. Specifically, we will provide reimbursement for the most economical airfare (which will be prepaid by us, not reimbursed), hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, as well as most meals during the training.

Do I have to stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel?
Yes. We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency. Rooms will be provided at this hotel only.

Can I apply by calling or e-mailing you?
No. We are unable to determine your eligibility via e-mail or telephone. Please complete the online application. Within approximately three business days, we will notify you by e-mail about whether you are eligible to participate.

I'm not eligible for this study. Why not? Our protocol prohibits us from revealing the exact reasons why you are not eligible. However, once all participants have been recruited (November 18, 2009), we will post the exact eligibility criteria on our website. At that time we can answer any specific questions you may have about your eligibility.

I'm not eligible for this study. Are there other MI trainings that I can attend?
Yes. Please see the list of MI trainings from the motivational interviewing website.

Where can I find information on the MINT or other MI-related training resources? Because Project ELICIT is not affiliated with the MINT, we do not maintain information about their organization or trainings. However, you might wish to visit their web site for more information.

I'm the director of an agency. How do I tell you which employee I've chosen to attend the training?
Unfortunately, you cannot choose an employee to participate because we cannot tell you who might be eligible. We encourage you to distribute information about the study to any employees who are interested, and ask them to apply online. We will select the first eligible employee at your agency (and department/site) to participate.

I'm not able to attend this workshop. How many workshops will there be?
This is the second of two workshops. Unfortunately, if you are unable to attend the November 2009 training, you will not be able to participate in this study.

I'm not eligible for the study. May I still attend the training?
No. Unfortunately, we can only provide this training to participants enrolled in the MI Training study.

What if I cannot attend the full training?
In order to receive any reimbursement, participants must attend 100% of the training.

What if I will be switching jobs and won't be seeing clients in my new job?
You must be able to submit recordings of actual client counseling sessions for one year after the training (at three, six, and twelve months post-training).

What documents/information are required for reimbursement?
Participants who wish to be reimbursed for travel-related costs will need to submit their social security number and all travel receipts. In addition, participants are required to attend the entire training in order to receive any reimbursement.

Will I receive CEU's for the workshop training?
Yes.

When will I be officially "enrolled" in the study?
You will not be officially "enrolled" in the study until: 1.) you have received an e-mail from us saying that you are eligible to participate and that we are sending a study packet in the mail, and 2.) you have returned all of your packet materials and we have determined that they are complete and correct. After that, we will e-mail you with congratulations on your enrollment and instructions on how to make travel arrangements.
