Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) code 3.0
Background
Derived from the MISC, the MITI is a one-pass behavioral coding system designed
to measure treatment fidelity for motivational interviewing. It can be used
for clinician training or as a quality check in clinical trials. The MITI
is substantially shorter than the MISC and uses only one pass for a 20-minute
segment of a therapy session. The brevity of this system necessarily excludes
measurement of important process variables, such as client change talk,
captured in the MISC and the SCOPE.
The MITI 3.1 is the most recently updated version of and the coding manual is
available here. The MITI 3.0 is also available in Danish.
The MITI 2.0 is available in French, Dutch,
and Swedish
versions. Previous versions can be found on the archive page.

Because examples of low-quality MI are not widely available, we have created
sessions using role-plays with simulated patients for training purposes.
